Cracked Reality

Time felt slow for Kyle.  The blinding lights above him, the people in light blue clothing walking back and forth around him, the immense and torturing pain he was going through.  He was told he was certain to survive, but his feelings told him this was the end.  Kyle’s eyes slowly blinked, still trying to figure out what was going on around him when something touched him, then went through him.  He was so weary to react strongly.  He looked over to his right arm and saw a pair of blue hands holding a needle that was stuck in his arm.  He looked up and saw the face doing it.  His vision was blurry and could not make out the facial expression of the mysterious face.  He heard voices, but at the same time they sounded faded and muted.

He looked down at his legs, but they were replaced with a blue covering.  To his left was a machine with buttons and tubes connected to it.  Finally, Kyle heard a voice.

“Ok sir, it’ll all be ok.  I’m going to need you to be still and relax.”  Relax.  Relax was a word Kyle liked to hear.  Some days after being in the office all day, all he would want to do when he got home was to just relax.  He wasn’t about to pass up this opportunity, so he relaxed his muscles and layed upright.  To his surprise, Kyle smiled.  In the midst of his pain he smiled.  He had no reason at all to.  He didn’t know where he was, he didn’t know what would happen, but he decided to smile.  And with that smile came happy thoughts.  Thoughts of his wife, thoughts of his two kids, thoughts of his successful job, thoughts of the fruit of his labor, thoughts that brightened his smile.

In the midst of his happiness, he saw the blue pair of hands again over him, holding some type of mask.  He was confused as to what was going on as the mask was placed on him.  Everything seemed to start to fade.  Kyle felt more relaxed than ever, like he was resting on a cloud.  He heard more muted voices around him as his eyes flickered.  Just before he closed his eyes, he saw a figure through what seemed to be glass, but it was not blurry this time.  It was clear as a diamond.  It was a woman holding two children.  Just as his thoughts came together, he fell asleep.
