SGA Candy Cane Article

From December 5th to December 13th, the Bob Jones Student Government Association (SGA) has been spreading Christmas cheer around the campus of Bob Jones by selling candy cane grams.  For the price of $1, you could buy a candy cane for yourself or someone else that’ll be delivered on December 14th.  The money raised from SGA was used to fundraise a local hospital who have kids undergoing surgery.  Usually, when the children wake up after their surgery, they will just be alone with the doctors as the parents aren’t allowed to see them immediately.  This can be a discomforting and scary experience for many children.  So the hospital is using the money raised by SGA to buy the children toys so that they will have something to comfort them.

SGA also had decided to sell candy canes to the different classes during Patriot Path on December 13th.  As a member of SGA, I was one of the many going around the school selling the candy canes.  It wasn’t all bad either; I was able to stumble into classes with a few of my friends, and so did other kids selling the candy canes.  Not only did the kids buy candy canes, but so did the teachers as well.

I asked Mrs. Panagos, the creative writing and digital publishing teacher, what she thought about the project.  “I thought that [the] students showed a lot of initiative,” she replied.  “I’ve had five different groups come to sell candy canes…it was interesting to see how each group had different results in sales…but overall, I thought it was nice.”  Many teachers and students funded this project and not only gave to the children, but at the same time shared loads of Christmas cheer all throughout the halls of Bob Jones.  Thank you to everyone who participated and Merry Christmas!
